Workshops at Adamah Art Studios
Adamah workshops offer focused, hands-on learning in a supportive and creative environment. Participants work directly with instructors in fully equipped studios designed for exploration and growth.
Workshop Format
Most workshops run from Sunday evening through Friday morning. Each day typically includes structured instruction in the morning and afternoon, with open studio hours in the evenings. Schedules may vary depending on the instructor and medium. Individual schedules are advertised on each workshop listing.
Tuition and Lodging
Tuition covers instruction, lunches, studio use, and most materials unless otherwise noted. The tuition price for our standard Sunday–Friday workshop format also includes a welcome dinner on Sunday evening. Please review the registration instructions carefully for specific details.

Single Room: Enjoy a private room and bathroom with meals included.

Shared Room: Share a room and bathroom with another participant of the same gender. Meals are included. If you are coming with another participant that you would like to share a room with, you can indicate your preference during registration. If no roommate is specified, one will be assigned for you.

Commuters: Participants may also choose to commute each day instead of staying on-site; you will still receive lunch daily. If you would like to purchase additional meals, please email us at adamah@bethelhorizons.org.
Meals are prepared on-site by Bethel Horizons’ executive chef and served buffet-style in the dining hall. The menu features fresh, balanced options to keep you energized and inspired throughout your stay.

What airport should I fly into to get to Adamah?
The Dane County Airport in Madison, Wisconsin is the closest airport to Adamah. It is about an hour drive from the airport. Adamah Art Studios is located at 4681 County ZZ. Dodgeville, WI 53533
Does Adamah provide transportation from the Airport?
We currently do not provide a shuttle to and from the airport. We very much hope to be able to provide this service in the future. Renting a car or carpooling with other workshop participants is our reccommendation for travel. There is no need for a vehicle to get around Adamah upon arrival.
What should I bring to my workshop?
For most workshops, bring essentials like an apron, comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, and any personal art tools if specified. Check the specific workshop description for additional recommendations.
What accommodations are available for workshop participants?
We offer a range of onsite lodging options, from private to shared rooms, each equipped with an in-room bathroom. All rooms have air conditioning and heating to ensure comfort in any season.
Are meals provided during workshops?
Yes, meals are included for participants who book a single or double room. Commuters receive lunch daily, with the option to add breakfast and dinner for an additional fee. Meals are provided for full-day workshops and will be served at 8 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m. We accommodate most dietary restrictions—please let us know any needs in advance.
Can I attend only part of a workshop?
Workshops are designed as complete experiences, so partial attendance isn’t typically offered. If you have specific scheduling conflicts, please reach out, and we’ll try to accommodate where possible.
Can I bring my partner or a friend with me to a workshop?
Yes! Have them sign up as a "Houseguest" House guests do not participate in workshop instruction but get to stay in the lodging facility and join the group for three meals a day.
Does clay come with the workshops?
Many of our ceramic workshops come with a set amount of clay. Details about what Adamah will provide for your workshop can be found in your workshop description.
Can we purchase clay?
Yes! Adamah sells clay right in the studio for your convenience. Prices vary depending on market price.
What type of clay is available at Adamah?
Adamah uses clay from Paoli Clay Company in Paoli, WI. We offer their grolleg porcelain, B-clay, and DSM half grog stoneware for sale in our studio. All of our clays fire up to cone 10. Many of our ceramic workshops come with a set amount of one of these clays, check your workshop description for more details.
What are studio hours during workshops?
During workshops, the studio remains open 24/7 for participants. Instructors are generally available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., though specific schedules may vary depending on the workshop. The studio will be closed on Tuesdays from noon-1pm for a mid-week clean.
Can I bring my own materials?
You’re welcome to bring personal tools and materials; however, some workshops may have specific requirements, so it’s best to check beforehand. We do not allow outside clay or glazes unless specifically outlined in the workshop description. Adamah has cone 10 stoneware and porcelain available for purchase in the studio.

Workshop Details
What is the daily workshop schedule like?
Our workshops follow a general schedule that offers breaks for meals and recreation. Instruction officially starts after the breakfast hour at 8a.m. People tend to work until the lunch hour, when there is a break for food and a little time to reset before the afternoon sessions. the instructor usually gives scheduled demonstrations and working time, with some time open to work more fluidly with instructors or take an afternoon hike. After dinner students and instructors often go over slideshows or enjoy a relaxing campfire. All participants and Instructors have 24 hour access to the studio.
What skill level is required for workshops?
Our workshops range from beginner-friendly to advanced. Each workshop description indicates the skill level—if unsure, feel free to reach out for guidance on the right fit.
Will our ceramic pieces be bisque-fired during the workshop?
Most ceramic workshops include a bisque firing before the end, although there’s no guarantee that all pieces will be bisqued, as this depends on kiln space and the clay's dryness.
Can I leave pieces that didn’t get bisqued and pick them up later?
Yes, you’re welcome to leave any greenware at Adamah for bisque firing. However, please plan to pick up your bisqued pieces within two weeks after the workshop; unclaimed pieces may be discarded after this period.
How many participants are in each workshop?
Class sizes vary, but we aim for small groups (6-16 participants) to ensure individualized attention and a collaborative environment.
What types of art mediums are offered in workshops?
We focus on ceramics and other media such as painting, drawing, fibers, glass and more! Check our schedule for current offerings in your preferred medium.
Are workshops physically intensive?
Many workshops include hands-on activities that may require moderate physical activity. Please reach out if you have specific concerns or need accommodations.
Lodging & Facilities
Are the studios and lodging facilities air conditioned?
Yes, there is air conditioning in each room and new air conditioning in our ceramics and multi-purpose studio!
Is there Wi-Fi at the studios and lodging facilities?
Wi-Fi is available in the retreat center, multi-purpose studio, and ceramics studio.
Are pets allowed?
We love pets, but unfortunately, we can’t accommodate them in the studios or lodging.
Are there laundry facilities available?
Yes, we have limited laundry facilities onsite. Please inquire about availability during your stay.
Registration & Payments
How do I register for a workshop?
Registration is available on our website. Simply select your preferred workshop and follow the checkout process.
What is included in the workshop price?
Those choosing to a single or multi-occupancy ticket receive lodging, 3 meals a day, and the workshop instruction for the total cost of the workshop. Commuters receive lunches and workshop instruction. The studio is open 24/7 to all workshop attendees.
When does registration open?
Registration opens on January 1st and closes one week before the start of a workshop.
Can I pay by check?

What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 45-day cancellation policy. Cancellations must be made in writing. If you notify us more than 45 days in advance you will receive a full refund minus a $45 cancellation fee. 44 - 30 days before you will receive a 100% credit toward a future workshop. Less than 30 days before you will receive a 50% credit toward a future workshop. Within 7 days no refund or credit will be given. We apologize, but no refunds or credits will be made within 7 days of the workshop, no matter the circumstance due to our contractual obligations and material acquisitions. If Adamah is compelled to cancel a workshop you will receive a full tuition refund.

Do you offer scholarships or financial assistance?
