Join David Breuch, a Detroit raku artist and native Madisonian, for two days of alternative raku firing, printmaking, good tunes, food and drink! Discover horsehair raku, Obvara, tin foil saggar raku, and the use of traditional raku glazes. Bring 10-12 smooth surfaced, bisque-fired pots with terra sigillata applied for the horsehair and saggar procedures. For the Obvarra, bring two more bisque-fired pots with surface texture or thrown with sodium silicate for a cracked surface effect. For raku glazing, add 2-3 more. Pots made with a raku clay body or added grog are suggested to prevent thermal shock. Leave with recipes, handouts and new techniques.
Enjoy pizza made in our outdoor wood-fired pizza oven!
When you are not firing, Jennifer Mally will introduce you to printmaking. Experiment with relief carving and make monoprints using our etching press.
Feel free to come to Adamah in the weeks prior to the workshop to throw pots with our clay bodies, use our terra sigillata and sodium silicate. Contact Jennifer for the studio schedule and details on the various techniques.
