Join international award-winning artist Lorin Willey on his ARTREKS Painting Adventure “Inspiration to Studio (The Driftless Zone)” at Adamah Art Studios in early September of 2020!
This outdoor to studio workshop is designed to inform you of the working methods of the early classic American landscape masters and others. Using the observational story-telling sketch/photo methodology similar to that employed by the New York school of landscape painters in the late 19th century, you will explore specific sites in the Wisconsin driftless zone and then bring your observations, sketches and photographs back to the Adamah studio to complete a studio painting based on your observations. You will learn how to take color notes from life, write and sketch observations in a field book, photograph in black and white, and then paint personal, inspired works that will tell the story you intend to communicate.
Lorin has been utilizing the sketch to studio reference model for decades to produce paintings of inspired imagination that go well beyond the current “quick-dash” plein air productions so popular today. Lorin is a master of, what he terms, the “big toolbox” of the painters’ craft. His painterly methods have evolved over a lifetime of living in, sketching, painting, and observing nature. He is a masterful draftsman and uses surface, color, and value manipulation to bring about the inspired “mood” of the moment. Since 1991, his workshops and seminars have taught artists to remain true to their unique vision. Lorin is a “natural coach” say those that have worked with him. For almost 3 decades he’s helped
artists improve and personalize their work through what he has coined the “3-Cs” of Creativity, Craftsmanship, and Clarity of Intent.
Artist must supply own materials. Supply list available upon request.
